Prath Balasubramaniam
Valued for his strategic thinking and straight-forward approach, Prath is highly sought after to help clients plan their asset structuring, transactions and taxation affairs.
He is deeply committed to his relationships with clients, helping them to solve complex legal problems and managing significant disputes.
With clients ranging from private businesses to family-owned enterprises, Prath’s areas of expertise include: business structuring, changing legal structures (or restructures), mergers and acquisitions, property development/transactions, capital raising/injections, inbound/outbound transactions, and foreign investment regulations.
Increasingly, Prath is asked to advise on corporate transactions, property developments and complex commercial and family disputes.
Prath has a Masters of Taxation and is recognised as a Chartered Tax Advisor of The Tax Institute of Australia. This uniquely positions him to advise on Federal taxes (CGT and GST) as well as state taxes (stamp duty, land tax and payroll tax), and he works closely with accountants and advisors to service their clients.
Prath is passionate about the law and social issues as well as personal development. He loves to talk about many things outside of the law, but in particular how to help people grow.
Sasha Jain
An innovative thinker and problem solver, Sasha has advised high-net worth families and Australian and international businesses on a range of legal matters, such as complex estate planning, taxation, structuring and more.
Sasha is highly regarded for her calm and empathetic approach especially when managing a complex succession plan for her clients.
Her taxation experience spans state, federal and international law, including income tax, GST, CGT, tax residency.
Sasha has experience working in boutique multidisciplinary law firms and excels at thinking commercially and laterally in applying and balancing client interests with the law.
She has completed a Master of Tax, Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Commerce and was admitted to practice law in 2014.
In her spare time, Sasha enjoys staying active and travelling.
Biya Sun
Biya thrives on finding solutions for clients’ complicated legal issues and paving the way for them to achieve the best outcomes.
She draws upon her experience gained from working with the ATO, big accounting firms, and top-tier tax teams to deliver pragmatic and commercially viable solutions to her clients. As an analytical mind who revels in the intricacies of tax law, Biya particularly enjoys delving into complex corporate and international tax law including Part IVA cases.
With strong project management skills, Biya often takes the lead in a complex restructure or corporate transaction.
Biya is a Chartered Tax Advisor with a Masters of Taxation and Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce from University of Melbourne.
When she’s not working, Biya takes pleasure in reading a great book, practicing Pilates, and spending quality time with family.
Aman Mintoo
Aman is a highly skilled commercial lawyer with expertise in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, commercial property, and restructuring.
He is known for his meticulous attention to detail and a client-focused approach, consistently delivering outstanding results, particularly in complex transactions and acquisitions matters.
His diverse professional experience, including his early legal work in Hong Kong, has shaped his ability to navigate intricate legal challenges and provide strategic solutions.
Aman holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London and a Master of Laws in Commercial and Corporate Law from Monash University.
Beyond his legal practice, Aman enjoys playing soccer and spending time by the beach. A dedicated Manchester United supporter, his passion for the game is unwavering.
Victor Murphy
Victor’s background in property and commercial law allows him to provide a wide range of transaction services to Capital 5 Partners’ clients as well as assisting in providing practical solutions to the resulting issues that may arise from the transaction.
He takes pride in ensuring a positive overall customer experience and aims to provide personalised attention to the firm’s clients throughout all stages of a transaction.
Victor graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Commerce in 2016, was admitted to practice in 2016 and commenced his legal career late 2019.
Outside of work, Victor enjoys cooking and supporting the mighty Hawks in the AFL.
Katie McKenzie
Since joining Capital Five Partners, Katie has gained a breadth of experience in commercial legal practice, and has a particular interest in commercial disputes, corporate structuring, asset protection and construction law.
Her previous experience working in the property and construction industry has afforded her valuable insight into the drafting and negotiation of contracts, commercial dispute resolution and litigation.
Known for her analytical skills, Katie is extremely detail oriented and uses these talents to achieve the best possible outcome for her client’s personal and business affairs.
Katie graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons).
Aside from her commercial work, Katie has a keen interest in International Law, and has previously pursued this passion studying in Italy and Washington D.C.
Thania Samuel
Thania began her legal career working on matters to do with commercial law and property disputes. With over 6 years of running her own Property practice, she brings extensive experience and expertise in property transactions and has a keen interest in commercial law. Thania has gained a wide breadth of experience in compliance and risk management generally.
Thania holds a Bachelor of Law/ Psychological Science and was admitted to practice in 2018. She adopts a straightforward, analytical and empathetic approach to achieve desired outcomes for clients. Outside of work Thania enjoys family time and travelling.
Lachlan McGhee
Lachlan brings a wealth of financial and business knowledge to the team, having run his own financial services company for a decade. His experience spans financial compliance, stakeholder relations and management, business development and operations management.
Lachlan recently completed his Bachelor of Laws at Deakin University and looks to be admitted to practice in 2024. His skills in building business relationships and managing compliance risk are complemented by an analytical and strategic approach to complex problem solving.
Those who have dealings with Lachlan appreciate his transparency, empathy and forthrightness. When not working, Lachlan enjoys spending time with his children, surfing, travel, wine and Champagne.
Diana Ntounias
With excellent operational and project management skills, Diana keeps everything in order behind the scenes at Capital Five.
Diana holds a Bachelor of Business Degree from Swinburne University. She spent 14 years in franchising, and specialises in business planning, marketing, human resources, administration and operations. Since 2015 she has used these skills in legal practice.
Diana is known for her ability to solve problems, plan strategically, communicate well and is passionate about ensuring everything runs smoothly.
When Diana isn’t working, you’ll find her spending time with her family. An ideal day involves a long walk near the water and reading a good book.
Tim Laird
With a firm belief that technology should cater to people’s needs, Tim takes care of everything IT and security at Capital Five. His wide range of experience includes on-site tech support, software development, systems administration and radio broadcast technology.
He excels at learning new technologies quickly and translating complicated IT concepts for the everyday user, with the aim to make technology useful and accessible for all.
Tim has a degree in Computer Science from Monash University. His people-oriented approach and problem solving skills make him an asset to the team. Outside of work, Tim likes to keep fit through running and using his home gym. He also enjoys spending time with his family and volunteering in the community. He is an avid learner of history, politics and philosophy.
